India Strengthens Nepal Ties with State-of-the-Art School Infrastructure in Baglung

Baglung, Nepal – In a significant step towards enhancing Nepal’s educational infrastructure, the Government of India formally handed over the newly constructed building of Shree Bhimgithe Secondary School in Baglung district, Gandaki Province. The project, completed under the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' initiative as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), aims to provide quality education and improve learning conditions for the region's students.

The handover ceremony, held on January 7, 2025, was jointly organized by the District Administration and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event witnessed the presence of prominent figures, including Amar Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Baglung; Gandaki Thapa Adhikari, Chairman of Badigad Rural Municipality; and Avinash Kumar Singh, Counsellor from the Embassy of India. The ceremony was attended by local government representatives, political leaders, school officials, and members of the community.

Established in 1958 as a primary school, Shree Bhimgithe Secondary School has grown over the decades to serve students from Class 1 to Class 12. Today, it educates approximately 700 students, 54% of whom are girls. The newly constructed infrastructure, funded through a grant by the Government of India, includes state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance the overall educational experience.

The project was implemented in collaboration with the District Coordination Committee, ensuring alignment with local needs and priorities. The school building will play a pivotal role in fostering a better learning environment, contributing to the broader development of the education sector in Baglung.

“This infrastructure created under the Nepal-India collaboration will not only benefit the students but also significantly contribute to the education sector’s overall growth in Baglung,” said Gandaki Thapa Adhikari, Chairman of Badigad Rural Municipality.

Amar Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, emphasized the project's significance, stating, “This initiative highlights the close friendship and developmental partnership between Nepal and India. The school is now well-equipped to provide quality education to its students.”

This milestone reflects India’s ongoing commitment to supporting Nepal’s developmental goals, focusing on education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The handover of Shree Bhimgithe Secondary School is part of a larger framework of HICDPs, reinforcing the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

The event marked yet another milestone in Nepal-India relations, showcasing how bilateral efforts can bring meaningful change to local communities.
